The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park is an educational DVD that teaches kids early reading skills. Tad and Lily, who you may recognize as the main froggy characters from LeapFrog, along with their firefly friend, Edison, and their puppy Scout, are going to the place of Edison's childhood dreams - the Alistair Alphabet Amusement Park! The best laid plans don't always work, as the crew finds out upon arrival that the park is - gasp! - closed! Oh no! That doesn't stop Edison, who manages to get himself stuck on top of the Amazing Alphabet Ferris Wheel! Can Tad and Lily save him? They must hurry and learn their letters, so they can turn on all the rides in the park with the magic of the alphabet to get him down!
This title is geared towards the 2 to 5 crowd, and it helps kids learn the alphabet in both upper and lower case, along with rhyming. Kids ages 2 to 3 will probably get the most out of this one, but it's a great refresher for 4 to 5 years olds. You may want to cut off the rhyming part though with the younger crowd in order to not confuse them. (Mine seemed to be following along alright, but you know your child's development best!) As usual, there are some fun sing-along songs to help kids learn - this one has three songs.
It contains some bonus features including short vowel shorts, and fun music video featuring Scout "Being a Puppy", and a preview of Numbers Ahoy!. There is also a short curriculum commentary for us parents to sit down and watch before viewing this DVD with our children. As with all LeapFrog titles, I recommend viewing them the first with your children, so you can help answer questions and guide them. And no, you aren't dreaming - if you've read my review for Numbers Ahoy, you'll see that the bonus features are virtually the same, with just a swapping of titles for the preview. Even though the age group is just a little different, the two DVDs go hand-in-hand a little here.
LeapFrog: The Amazing Alphabet Amusement Park is a full screen animated DVD available now wherever DVDs are sold. It is not rated, but geared for ages 2 to 5, with a total running time of 39 minutes. The suggested retail price is $14.98, but Amazon has it available for $10.49 as of this posting and available for free super saver shipping or free Prime shipping. I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts. All opinions are my own!
