Max & Ruby: Bunny Tales had me at the cover - check out Max dressed as a Prince and Ruby as a Princess! If you're unfamiliar with Max and Ruby, they are an animated cartoon based on a series of children's books written by Rosemary Wells. This DVD contains four "episodes" of three "stories" each of the popular series, all new to DVD: "The Princess and the Marbles", "Emperor Max's New Suit", "Max and the Three Little Bunnies"; "Ruby's Real Cinderella", "Ruby's Hoola Hoop", "Max and the Martians"; "Max's Castle", "Bunny Hopscotch", "Max's Grasshopper"; and "Ruby's Water Lily", "Max Saves the Parade", "Super Max's Cape".
As you can see, there are a few fairy tale themes going on throughout this DVD, and of course, the imagination that we know so well from Max & Ruby. In "The Princess and the Marbles", Max continues to pester and interrupt Ruby while she is putting on a play (a common occurrence in this series lol), and Grandma becomes Queen, and with Prince Max's help, they tell the story of "the Princess and the Marbles" to find out if Ruby truly is a Princess! All of the stories end with Max and Ruby happily playing together. I just adore this series!
I've mentioned this in the past on the Max & Ruby DVD's: They are the usual Max and Ruby fare, where you can see Max's stubbornness (just like any 3 year old, of course) and Ruby's intelligence/imagination. It's a great DVD for the preschool set (over the age of 4 will probably get bored fast). If you have never read any of the Max & Ruby stories, I really suggest visiting your local library and picking up a few to read alongside watching the DVD. They are fun, short books that make for an easy read with your kids before naptime and bedtime! These books are some of our favorites here. As always, I have to give not only the books, but this series two thumbs up as a Mom. I especially love that I can stop it after just one short story (using the PS3, it picks up again right where we stopped) and keep TV viewing to a minimum.
Max & Ruby: Bunny Tales will be released this Tuesday, January 11th, 2011. It's full screen format, with no special features, and it has a total running time of 98 minutes. It's not rated, and safe for all ages, but best for the ages 2 to 4 set. The suggested retail price is $16.99, but Amazon has it on pre-order for just $12.99 as of this posting.
I received a copy of the DVD mentioned above in order to view and share my opinions of it. No other compensation was given, and all opinions are my own.
