Review & Giveaway: Roundabouts

I may not be the world's greatest baker - hey, at least I admit it! However, I love doing the whole theme thing when I bake cakes and cupcakes. I cannot resist the fun of patterned baking cups, character toppers, and of course - sprinkles! The first Halloween that DH and I were married, he was supposed to take in some kind of baked goods for their work party. I went ALL OUT! I broke out the food coloring, the pumpkin shaped mini cakes, gummy worms, etc, and made some pretty killer slimy cupcakes with worms and eyeballs.

Apparently I went a little overboard in the realism, because he came back with most of the cupcakes that night.

I sulked for weeks. Who knew normal people didn't like worms and body parts on their food? LOL!

Fast forward a few years, and I love making cupcakes. They are easier to serve around here than an entire cake (even if they end up just as messy I think!) and at least they generally bake properly in my less than stellar oven. I'm always on the hunt for markdown baking toys as my DH calls them, so I was excited when I had the chance to review Roundabouts!

Roundabouts are wraps for cupcakes that transform standard cupcakes into fancy fun mini cakes! They simply go around the cupcake, closing with an adhesive tab, and then you can decorate the top - you can turn cupcakes into popcorn tubs, gumball machines, sushi, and ice cream cones, among so many others! The wraps are resistant to grease and oily substances, are earth friendly, and wipe clean if things get a bit messy in the kitchen. (Because they wipe clean so easily, if you take good care of them, you can easily re-use them a couple more times - the website says that a dab of frosting has been used to secure them again, but I suggest Glue Dots!) I was sent the Skully Girl decorative sleeves.

Aren't they perfect for us? I wiped the ones I used down and I am going to try to use them once more! It was fairly easy to wrap around the cupcakes - just remember to wrap THEN decorate with the sprinkles, etc or you will have a mess. There are over 70 different styles to choose from, so you can almost celebrate just any occasion with them! The possibilities for geeky fun are really endless with these. There's some great ones for Valentine's Day - check out the Candy Hearts design! (I know I am a kitchen geek, but I just love the Roundabouts! I'm totally getting the Black Cat design for Halloween this year!)

Roundabouts come in "sleeves" of 12 wraps with a retail price of $8.99. You can also design custom wraps by contacting the company. (Two thumbs up for these being made here in the USA!)
