Food With Friends! is a compilation DVD, featuring several of the hottest shows that cater to the pre-school crowd over on the Nickelodeon networks. It includes:
Dora The Explorer - "El Dia de las Madres", where Dora and Papi make Mami a cake for Mother's Day. (For obvious reasons, I'm sure there are others thinking that maybe this should have had an earlier release date? It would have tied in perfectly for many families!) Kids will help Dora gather the ingredients for the special cake!
Go, Diego, Go! - "Green Iguana Helps Abuelito Plant a New Strawberry Farm" Poor Abuelito's strawberries have been all blown away thanks to the high wind. Diego helps Alicia and the Bobo Brothers, alongside the green iguana's belly full of strawberry seeds, to help save the farm.
Wonder Pets! - a double header of "Save The Bee" and "Save the Squirrel" where the Wonder Pets shrink down to the size of a honey bee to help out a bee, and then off to Coney Island to help save a little squirrel stuck in - yikes! - cotton candy.
Blue's Clues makes an appearance with "The Grow Show", where you'll help search for clues while trying to figure out what Blue wants to do outside.
This disc wouldn't be complete without Yo Gabba Gabba! and the most popular YGG episode ever - "Eat". Yes, it's the party in my tummy song! (So yummy! So yummy!)
Ni Hao, Kai-lan rounds out the disc with "Happy Chinese New Year!". A few months too late in my opinion, but oh well. Kai-lan and her friends are finally old enough to carry the huge dragon costume together, so they form the Dragon Team and learn that every job, no matter how big or small, is very important.
Also included on the disc is a bonus feature containing two music videos from the Team Umizoomi show, "Supermarket Song" and "I Love Milk Song". (Finally! Some bonus goodies!) These were a great addition to the DVD, and besides the Yo Gabba Gabba! and Dora episodes, probably the ones that tie into the theme of food the most. For the kids, I guess it doesn't really matter - to them it's like turning on the TV during the day and watching episodes as usual, but I think as a Mom, I would have liked to have had a better collection of episodes tied into the theme of food, even if it meant waiting a little while longer for those shows to produce episodes that would encourage kids to eat/or eat healthy.
Food With Friends! will be released this coming Tuesday, May 1th, 2011. Full screen format, it has a total running time of 148 minutes. It's not rated, but meant for the ages 2-5 crowd (anyone older will probably get bored extremely fast). The suggested retail price is $16.99, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $13.49 as of this posting. (Netflix users: this title is not currently available. Check back though!)
I received a copy of this DVD in order to share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
