Petpalooza! 2011

Once again this year, we packed up everything we needed into the car and headed out to Auburn to attend Petpalooza! The weather wasn't exactly on our side, as it was cooler, and raining on and off all day.

There was a lot entertainment on the "big stage", including the "Bird Lady" and these great dogs who are trained to sniff out scents as part of a sport. It's a lot like what the police dogs are trained to do in looking for drugs and bombs, but not so serious - the dogs are having fun. Our two Corgis would probably only follow the scent of fried chicken. ;)

My daughter's favorite portion was of course, the pony rides:

The jungle playhouse too:

And the giant bounce house:

Trust me, she (and Daddy) was occupied while I shopped some booths with the dogs, lol. There were plenty of vendors in attendance, although not as many handmade ones as last year :( I'll admit I was a little startled at the amount of booths trying to sell insurance and house-related things such as gutters. What was up with that? It kind of took away from the fun of pets when so many booths were just after your name and phone number to sell you something.

Just like last year, there were plenty of rescue groups in attendance, and I think some pets managed to find homes! We spent some time oohing and ahhhing at Chihuahua Rescue and Referral's booth and shhhh don't tell anyone yet, but we may end up adopting a Chi! It's so sad though, one of the ladies was explaining to us that they are bringing in dogs from California, Arizona etc, with volunteers because the shelters are so full of littler dogs - here in WA, it's really the opposite, our shelters are so full of bigger dogs. If only we could arrange a mass trade off these poor babies, maybe everyone could find a loving home quicker!

We all had a blast - OK, maybe the kid more than us lol - and the Corgis enjoyed all the treats being handed out, that's for sure! We actually didn't end up buying much there, but I think we more than made up for it with the massive pet stuff purchases later on in the day.

Folks, remember to spay and neuter your pets, and adopt - don't buy!

Oh, that looks like a fun event! How nice that they had things for the kids to do too.
