Stamp Out Hunger May 14, 2011

As a gentle reminder, tomorrow, Saturday May 14th, your local post office and mail carrier will be collecting food donations for local food banks and charities. They are looking for all non-perishable items, as long as it doesn't come in a glass container. (They are worried it might break on the way)Some suggestions are canned meat, canned vegetables or fruit, cereal, condiments, etc. If you are "shopping" from your pantry, be sure to check the use by date as they are unable to give away items that have expired.

I know times are tough for many of us right now, but if you can give even just a can or two, it all helps. If you can, try to give items that make an entire meal - if folks are stopping by the local food bank, they make not have the cash to purchase eggs to make a mix, but they can easily warm up a can of soup in the microwave or on the stove. I know canned goods don't tend to be the healthiest foods, and I wish we could solve that problem - I still feel Home Ec and cooking classes need to be making a comeback in schools as a requirement, but I'm not here to rant again today. I'm just here to remind you to help out tomorrow. :)
