As most of you know, my DH is in nursing - he is on his feet for a minimum of eight hours a day. Shoe shopping with the man is a NIGHTMARE - he can only wear a certain style of shoe, and that style of shoe isn't exactly comfortable for long term wear. (Even worse, a pair of shoes last about 3-4 months with him, so each shoe shopping trip, I consider it a great trip if he ends up with 3 pairs lol) A few months ago, I purchased this pair of inserts at Target that were about $20. He wore them an hour. Yes, a whole stinking hour. I was not a happy wife.
A few weeks after that, when we were at Walmart I spotted the Dr Scholl's machine (it's right by the cat litter in our store, lol) You know us and technology, we're easily amused ;) so I had DH hop on the machine and see what it said. It was fun, but I choked at the $50 cost. Funds were tight (property taxes, you know how that goes!) and I was still mad about the last pair of inserts.

Fast forward to the email from Mom Central, and I admit, I went back and forth to trying it myself for a split second. (What? Hey, at least I admit my shortcomings! lol) We headed on over to Walmart again to play with the machine, just to be sure, and ordered up a pair. Now when you go to the store, the machine maps out your feet, and how you stand on them doing several positions, and then the computerized read out on the screen will tell you exactly which style of custom fit orthopedic inserts you should pick out. They are all labeled easily, in colors and numbered. (DH needed CF 330) Because these don't fit your entire foot, the inserts should fit the majority of people's feet. If you have ever had custom fit inserts from the podiatrist, you probably know that not only is it time consuming as you have to wait for them to be made, they can be rather expensive depending on your insurance! (Of course these vs. the custom inserts from your podiatrist differ as they are specially molded to be exact to your feet!) The great part about the Dr Scholl's orthopedic inserts is that you can be wearing these within five minutes - well, depending on your store's checkout lines, of course. ;) They also fit a multitude of shoe styles, from casual to dress shoes - and because they don't quite fit the entire length of your foot, you could also wear them in open toed peep shoes for summer! (We won't see my DH in those though - LOL!)
As I am writing this post, today, May 12th, is day one for my DH to use them. He's wearing fairly new shoes, and I know he's been complaining about his heel, so I am hoping there will be a difference when he comes home.
On day one, he says he doesn't even notice they are on when he's walking around. When he's standing still for more than a few minutes, they ache a little on the lift part in the arch. His feet probably just need to get used to wearing them.
(the following content was written later than what you've read so far)
After about a week, he's noticed that his heels don't ache like they used to, which is a really great thing, and he no longer feels any aches in his arch. He has noticed that his toes ache from time to time, which is probably because it's the one area of his foot that's now not padded! He's moved them in and out of two different pairs of shoes, and has had no problems. (he has a pair he uses for work, and one for play)
By week two, it has shifted to his heels aching, but the arches are fine. He only has this problem with his work shoes, not his other pair - so it may just be that particular pair of shoes causing the ache. At any rate, he says he really loves the Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotics Inserts, and he'll be continuing to wear them. I'm not sure how long before they eventually wear out, but when that time comes, we'll try out the machine again, just to be sure his feet are still the same. (I would suppose after a year or so your feet could change?)
If you'd like to give Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotics Inserts a try and see if it helps your feet feel better at the end of the day too, you can print a rebate to receive $7.50 back. It's good through January 12, 2012, so you can plenty of time to head to the store to try out the machine.
Remember, if your feet continue to ache, it may be the sign of an underlying problem with other parts of your body like your back. Be sure to mention it to your doctor, or schedule an appointment with a podiatrist.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Dr. Scholl’s and received a Custom Fit Orthotics from Dr. Scholl’s to facilitate my review.
