Every year, Harlequin selects several women who have helped to make our world a better place to be recipients of the More Than Words award, where $10,000 is donated to their chosen cause. In honor of these women, three of the best selling Harlequin authors have written short stories inspired by these real-life heroines. Proceeds from the sale of More Than Words Volume 7 are reinvested into the Harlequin More Than Words program, and the cycle begins anew.
More Than Words Volume 7 kicks off with Carly Phillips' short story, Compassion Can't Wait, which is inspired by Valerie Sobel and her California based Andre Sobel River of Life Foundation. Julia Caldwell and Kyle Hansen were high school sweethearts who are re-united when Julia contacts him in hopes that he can help grant a favor for a young boy.
Donna Hill's short story, Someplace Like Home, is inspired by Nancy Abrams and her Family Reconnect Program. Verna Scott is a certified social worker in need of a change, and starts up her own sanctuary, Someplace Like Home, where several kids can stay in safety with round the clock help and support. She meets Ronald Morris, a school counselor, who wants to volunteer at Someplace Like Home. A romance blooms, and suddenly out of the blue, Ronald finds out that one of the kids staying there might actually be his own child. Will they all become a family?
What the Heart Wants is written by Jill Shalvis, and is inspired by Victoria Pettibone and Sasha Eden, and their WET's Risk Takers Series. In this story, Ellie Cahn, a former wild child herself, is a teacher who helps teenage girls find self-confidence with her nonprofit program Powerful and In Charge. One day when she has a flat tire (cutting corners means no more AAA!), her old high school boyfriend, Jack Buchanan, comes to her rescue. It turns out Jack runs a self-defense studio, which Ellie thinks is just perfect for her girls to learn from. Suddenly, they are spending a lot more time together. Will the romance start up again?
Two more stories are included as part of Volume 7 as free e-books that anyone can download over on the More Than Words site.
Folks, I know some of you have your eyes glaze over when it comes to my book reviews, but I hope y'all will take a moment out of your busy day to visit some of the very worthy charity organizations who received the Harlequin More Than Words award this year. I've linked to each one in hopes you'll help spread the word about them, because together, we each can make a difference.
