Local Spotlight: Scenic Beach State Park

We started our day off today just deciding we were going to get into the car and just somewhere, anywhere - so long as it was nature inspired. We headed off North-ish, and along the way we saw several cars pulled off to the side of the road, and serious photographic equipment. You know me, I made DH stop and see what all the commotion was about. ;) Turns out there was a bunch of bald eagles and other wild birds diving around the water! We have lived here just over 5 years now, and that's the most bald eagles we have ever seen in one area! Sadly my pictures didn't come out the greatest -it was early in the morning and very overcast, but here's a couple:

We ended up spending the day at Scenic Beach State Park. Yes, really - it's called that. I guess they weren't feeling very creative that day. ;) It even had a nice playground for the kiddo:

And this fun log home. Turns out Joe Bacher once had his home on this site. He used to own the "Our House" saloon over across the water in Seattle back before the days of Prohibition. The original home burnt to the ground, taking Joe's life with it. The Washington State Parks acquired the land back in 1979. The cabin you see here was built back in the 1930's:

I'm trying to convince DH to build a replica now. It's pretty big inside even if it doesn't look like it. Well, to me, anyways. I think it's at least the size of our home now, which seems big for a log cabin. After you hit some trails:

You can hit that "scenic beach". It's really rocky, not sandy like beaches in other parts of the US. Here our beaches are pretty much all rocky. (Drives me crazy, all beaches should be like South Padre Island, LOL)

Take a look at this absolutely FABULOUS view:

I could get used to waking up to that view. :)
