The Spy Kids trilogy continues in Game Over with Juni, who now works as a private investigator. He is contacted by the OSS (which is the super secret spy headquarters) and told that his sister is missing, having been kidnapped by the Toymaker, an evil villain who created a virtual reality video game called "Game Over". Juni must get into the video game and beat it to save his sister. It's not as easy as it sounds, and it's struggle to make his way through the different levels to beat the game. He finally makes it to level five, where he is met by the Toymaker's giant robot! As an army of robots is released on the city, can Juni, Carmen and the rest of the family stop the madness?
Many of the big names once again came back for this movie (although you don't see them until towards the end), and Sylvester Stallone makes an appearance in the movie as the Toymaster. When it was originally released, the whole movie was done in 3D - thankfully for this Blu-Ray re-release, we get to skip that giant headache. The storyline isn't quite as exciting as the first two movies, but it's still appealing to kids, and it is fun to watch at home on the bigger screen TVs. There are a few scary scenes, but maybe not quite as much as Spy Kids 2. Spy Kids 4 is about to be released in the theaters next week (hence the re-released of the first three onto Blu-Ray), and let's just hope it follows more in the vein of the first two movies and skips over this third one.
This new Blu-Ray re-release of the movie contains two discs - the second disc is a digital copy that you can use to upload to all of your portable devices. Disc one contains a stack of special features once again, with audio commentary by director Robert Rodriguez, the the "Robert Rodriguez Ten Minute Film School", Alexa Vega in concert, "The Making of Spy Kids 3D: Game Over", "The Effects of the Game", Making Tracks with Alexa Vega, multi angle "Surfing and Stunts", "Big Dink, Little Dink", and some trailers.
Spy Kids 3: Game Over is a two disc Blu-Ray set that is available at your favorite DVD store. Widescreen format, it is rated PG, and has a total running time of 84 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $19.99, but Amazon has it available for $9.99 as of this posting.
I received a copy of this DVD in order to share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
