DVD Review: FanBoy and Chum Chum: Brain Freeze

My family and I recently received a copy of one of the newest DVD releases from Nickelodeon to review, FanBoy and Chum Chum: Brain Freeze to review.

FanBoy and Chum Chum follows the adventures of FanBoy and yes, Chum Chum, two boys who are sci-fi/fantasy addicts and live in the town of Galaxy Hills. Their main idol is Man-Arctica - who just happens to loathe children - and it seems like their overactive imagination is always getting them into trouble one way or another. And yes, they wear superhero costumes - complete with their underwear on the outside. (Don't all superheros do that? lol) Instead of traditional cartoon animation, this one's CGI - and it actually fits this quirky series perfectly.

FanBoy and Chum Chum: Brain Freeze contains seven episodes revolving around FanBoy and Chum Chum's favorite treat, the Frosty Freezy Freeze: "Brain Freeze", "Berry Sick", "Refill Madness", "The Frosty Bus", "Jingle Fever", "Back From The Future", and "Norse-ing Around". In "Brain Freeze", Fanboy and Chum Chum discover that their favorite flavor of Forsty Freezy Freeze, Berry Pink, is about to be discontinued - so they go on a Frosty Freezy Freeze binge and eat as much as they can. As you can probably guess, they end up with a massive brain freeze! ;) Alas, when they wake up the next morning, they find their undies missing! Can they retrace their steps and find out what happened to their signature tighty whiteys? (LOL)

This show can make anyone laugh, if only from the absurdity of some of the situations. DH laughed hysterically and said that I just HAD to give this one two thumbs up. Me? I just rolled my eyes. OK, and giggled a lot. It's definitely slap stick humor and serves no real purpose other than to make you laugh - so basically if you have a tween boy, this series - and DVD - would be a hit. lol

Included on the DVD is a short special feature that is an original animatic called "Brain Freeze".

FanBoy and Chum Chum: Brain Freeze will be available this Tuesday, August 16th, 2011. Full screen format, it is not rated, but best for ages 7 and up. The total running time is 88 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $16.99, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $11.99 as of this posting.

I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
