DVD Review: A Walk For Sunshine Appalachian Trail Show

You've seen me talk a lot over the last few months about Jeff Alt. (No? You missed it? Then click here and here!)

Jeff put together a presentation/slide show available on DVD talking about his journey along the Appalachian Trail called the A Walk For Sunshine Appalachian Trail Show. It features commentary about how he was feeling as he hiked along this beautiful trail that runs from Maine to Georgia alongside personal photographs taken. There's even some music to go along with it.

When Jeff started talking about how computers may have simplified our life but yet only made it more complicated - we work more hours, home cooked meals are a thing of the past - I sat there going AMEN! Laugh if you will, but I couldn't agree more. I made it a point for us to disconnect this summer as much as we could - even if it was only for the afternoon - and leave technology behind. More than once DH had withdrawals (OK, me too, because I felt like I was neglecting my blog), but we had a blast visiting parks, museums, hiking and camping. I found myself sleeping better in a tent on the ground than I do in my home! How sad is that?

The scenery shown throughout the video is incredible, and Jeff really makes it personal with tons of stories and comments - even pet lovers will get a smile out of his story about Enya, his friend's German Shepherd who joined them for a week during the journey.

At the end of the DVD is several bonus feature slides, including Jeff's gear list, tips for the beginning hiker, and advice and tips for hiking with children.

I give this two thumbs up! Even if you're not an outdoorsy person, I think you'll enjoy Jeff's stories.

A Walk For Sunshine Appalachian Trail Show has a total running time of 67 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $19.95. A percentage of the proceeds from the sale of this title benefit the non-profit Sunshine Inc to help enhance the lives of people with disabilities. You can purchase it via your favorite bookstore, or via sites such as Amazon.

I'm hijacking this to remind you that's only the beginning of August - there's still plenty of time to get outdoors and disconnect from technology for awhile. Even if it's just heading to a local county or state park and walking a trail for an hour, grab the family and GO!

I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.

I just did that--disconnected for a week! It was great and at first, hard to do. Now it is hard to gear back up and get blogging again.
