One2One Network, the National Pork Board, and Johnsonville invited me to participate in the "No Ordinary Burger" recipe contest and sent me on over a coupon to pick up Johnsonville Pork Burgers, as well as a handy meat thermometer, grill apron, and grill mitt. (DH was all excited - something for him to play with! lol)
The new Johnsonville Brat and Italian Sausage Patties are available at your local Walmart. I say your, because apparently our two closest Walmarts don't carry them yet. :( I even tried Safeway, Albertsons, and Fred Meyer just in case, and no dice - that would be five different stores I hit up in search of them. I dejectedly came back home.
So I don't have any pictures of a yummy Johnsonville Brat burger to share with you, but I will share with you the topping recipe I was planning to use, because if you love pineapple, you will love this!
Pineapple Chutney
1 (16 oz) can crushed pineapple
1 cup vinegar
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 small clove garlic, crushed
1/4 cup slivered almonds (you'll find these in the baking aisle)
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup green pepper, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
First, combine the crushed pineapple (do not drain!) with the brown sugar, vinegar and salt. Cook over low heat for about 25 minutes or so, stirring occasionally. Add the rest of the ingredients and continue cooking, and just keep stirring occasionally until thickened. If you're struggling to get it thickened, try a little bit of cornstarch in it. (Do a very little because you don't want to overdo it!) When the mixture looks like super thick jam, you're done! Serve warm on top of Johnsonville Brat burgers with arugula leaves, and your choice of bun.
Now you want to enter that contest, right? Get our your best recipe! Build your best burger using Johnsonville Brat or Italian Sausage Patties, and you could win a year’s worth of groceries from WalMart in the “No Ordinary Burger Contest!” Now through September 6, log on to the contest page and submit your recipe and vote for your favorite pork burger. Two grand prize winners will be awarded one year's worth of groceries and their winning recipes featured on Johnsonville Brat and Italian Sausage Patty boxes. Click here for the official rules, and enter the contest or vote here. (Make sure you check out the rules, recipe contests often have lots of details and you don't want to be disqualified because you used an ingredient you shouldn't!!)
Win it! Thanks to One2One Network and the National Pork Board, two lucky readers are going to win FIVE coupons for free Johnsonville Brat and Italian Sausage Patties! These coupons expire fairly quickly, so if you win, you'll want to use them quick! Host a BBQ, or toss them in the freezer. Because of the expiration date, this is a super quick giveaway too! My best burger is pretty simple, because I like simple.
I like pickles, red onions, and hot peppers. This way I get heat and flavor. I don't like to muddle up a burger with lettuce (tastes like grass to me) or tomatoes which don't give (my opinion) a lot to the burger.
