Random Thoughts Tuesday - Zombie Engagement

DH wanted to treat me for my birthday, so yesterday we headed off to window shop, including the Auburn Super Mall, which we had never been to. Let me start off by saying that I am horrified at much we have let back to school become a commercial business - who says kids need thousands of dollars of new clothing? And overpriced school supplies? Who says the pencils left from last year aren't still good enough for this year? Or the backpacks? It's sickening to me, this waste of resources and money. I was listening to a 12ish boy saying HE HAD TO HAVE THIS! NOT ANYTHING ELSE! and I literally wanted to throw him over my knee and spank him. It's ridiculous!

...seriously, the amount of bad behavior and temper tantrums were just too much for me. It was awful. I couldn't get out of the mall fast enough.

DH also took us to Goodwill by the pound. Eh... although the kiddo got a new dress, DH got a hysterical apron that says Vegetarian = Old Indian Word for Bad Hunter (LOL!!!), and I found a nearly new set of flannel sheets for the bed (including pillow cases!) Oh, and some small flannel receiving blankets for a project I have. Total cost? Just over $6 for everything. Yippee!

It rained last night. Normally I would complain, but for once, we actually needed it. My lawn is a dirty white. I'm actually surprised there haven't been more brush fires along the roads.

Unfortunately, with the rain, the slugs came back. Grrrr! I flung them all into the neighbor's yard. LOL

Blackberries are starting to come in! I can't wait to make fresh homemade jam! Mmmmmm!

It looks like I might have a few more zucchini, but I think that's the last of the garden until the apples are ready. (MMMMM... apple butter!)

I finally gave up on DH and treated the drains myself this morning. (baking soda & vinegar, of course)

I ran out of cat food and bunny carrots yesterday. I get the bad pet parent of the year award. (Don't worry, we went right back out!)

Oh, and I snagged my dress for zombie prom at another Goodwill for just $1.29! I was afraid I was going to have to pay full thrift store retail for one, whew - only took me six months. lol At least at the price I wont feel bad ripping it and getting blood all over it. ;)

So while we're talking about zombies - I know, it's not like I don't at any chance I get lol - since we're two months away from ZomBCon in October, I hereby decree October as zombie month here at Confessions of a Psychotic Housewife! ;)

LOL; when my parents took me back to school shopping, we got the essentials. It was rarely about the looks. Though, I did HAVE to have a Trapper Keeper. And that confession totally dates me. :) Happy Tuesday.

I never bought my kids new backpacks, lunch boxes, or new clothes for school unless they really needed them. Especially shirts and shorts--they only wear them for a few weeks before it gets cold. I did, however, take advantage of the sales to get some jeans for winter and new shoes to start the year. It's crazy, isn't it? And I get really mad when schools require uniforms because I don't get the "it saves you money" thinking. Now the kids need TWO sets of clothes!
