Thrifty Thursday - Out Of Dry Milk?
This week for my Thrifty Thursday post, I'm talking about an easy to use quick tip for baking bread and other yummy delights.
Have you seen the cost of dry milk recently? You'd think it was gasoline as high as it's gotten! I seem to go through it like crazy with all of the baking I've been doing, too. Here's a frugal tip: instead of using powdered dry milk, use powdered non dairy creamer and substitute it the same as you would the dry milk (1/3 cup of dry creamer to 1 cup of water). It gives the same creamy flavor as the powdered milk at a fraction of the price! (and it lasts just as long in food storage, too)
Sometimes you can snag the larger containers on sale for around $2, so if you have a lot of recipes that use milk, stock up! (I haven't tried using the liquid, but I imagine it's the same as using fresh milk when baking or cooking - now with cereal, you'd definitely taste a difference!)
