Book Review: Dear Bully

I recently received a copy of the new book, Dear Bully: Seventy Authors Tell Their Stories edited by Megan Kelley Hall and Carrie Jones, to review.

Dear Bully is collection of seventy different letters and reflections by authors about their experiences with bullies when they were younger, from being on the receiving end of the torment, to watching others being tormented, to even being the tormentor themselves. Several mention that it has shaped who they have become today. Many young adult authors such as R.L. Stine to Lauren Kate to Heather Brewer have contributed to this collection.

From an adult perspective, the book is a fast read, albeit a snoozefest more than once. I get bullying - trust me, I do. It was super difficult for me growing up in what was the foreign version of The Addams Family, where we were the outsiders in the rural community where we lived. I even had problems with my teachers, some of which I have commented about before on this blog. Maybe as a teen, I would have appreciated it more, but I doubt it. At any rate, it is wonderful to hear that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to Stomp Out Bullying.

Note that there is strong language by many of the authors in this book, so it's not appropriate for those in the under 13 crowd.

Dear Bully: Seventy Authors Tell Their Stories edited by Megan Kelley Hall and Carrie Jones is paperback young adult book published by HarperTeen. It is 384 pages long. The suggested cover price of the book is $9.99, and Amazon has it available for $9.99 as of this posting. It is also available as an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.

I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.

It actually sounds like an interesting book. Snoozefest, huh?
