Book Review: Entenmann's Big Book of Baking

I recently received an e-book copy of Entenmann's Big Book of Baking to review.

Entenmann's Big Book of Baking contains 140 recipes. The recipes Focus on fresh ingredients and simple preparation, so even those not handy with the baking skills can wrangle up something lovely for dessert any night. Most of the recipes use easy to find ingredients when the fresh fruits are in season.

The "Almost Homemade" section is full of recipes submitted by folks like you and me: Entenmann's held a contest on their Facebook page, and these recipes were the winners! All of these recipes use an Entenmann's product. The rest of the book is from scratch recipes that are easy to make. From Chocolate Cake Donuts to Banana Crunch Cake, to Cream Cheese Swirl Coffee Cake, there's plenty of baked goods worthy of serving for dessert, or as a tea time snack.

When I purchase cookbooks - especially baking cookbooks - one of the things I want to see are clear, color photographs of the finished dish. Entenmann's Big Book of Baking delivers with plenty of pictures so I can be sure I'm in the neighborhood with what I've made, instead of guessing. ;) The directions are also easy to follow, another important feature I look for myself.

If you like semi-homemade baking, you'll probably love Entenmann's Big Book of Baking. If you're more of a from scratch kind of baker, it might not be up your alley with the "Almost Homemade" section being about 25-30% of the book. It struck me as almost the perfect bake sale cookbook - you can't go wrong with taking the baked goods featured in this one to a bake sale.

I'll admit even I was drooling over all the crumb cakes thanks to the photos! (Oh, the Chocolate and Orange Loaf Cake! That one deserves to be baked on a regular basis!)

Entenmann's Big Book of Baking is a hardcover cookbook published by Parragon Books and available today, September 27th, 2011. It is 320 pages long. The suggested cover price is $14.99, but Amazon has it available for $11.68 as of this posting. It will be available as an e-book for everyone soon!

I received a copy of this book in order to share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
