DVD Review: Olivia: Princess For A Day

My family and I recently received a copy of the newest animated Nickelodeon DVD release Olivia: Princess For A Day to review.

Olivia: Princess For A Day is the latest title to be released on DVD based on the popular children's book series written by Ian Falconer and features 4 new to DVD episodes, or 8 stories from Nick Jr's popular TV series. Olivia, if you aren't familiar with her, is a pretty stubborn pink pig who believes she can do ANYTHING she puts her mind to. Her stories have a great message for kids, and it's one of our favorite series of book to read here.

Here are the episodes included on this DVD: "Princess For A Day", "Olivia's Old West Treasure Hunt", "Olivia Plays Hotel", "Olivia Goes International", "Olivia Tip Top Taper" "Olivia Becomes A Chef", "Olivia's Fashion Show" and "Olivia Plaints a Mural". "Princess For A Day" is actually a double length episode where Olivia meets her spitting image - who just happens to be a princess! The girls decide to trade places for the day. Is the grass really greener on the other side? (By the way, there is a pop up book version of this story that will be released in October - be on the lookout for it!)

There is one special feature included on the DVD - a bonus episode called "Olivia Plans a Tea Party". This was one of our favorite "stories" on the DVD!

I totally recommend borrowing a couple of the Olivia books from the library if you don't already own any, and then follow up with this DVD - your little girl(s) will love it! I'd peg the TV series as more for girls, of course, and geared towards the ages 2 to 6 crowd.

Olivia: Princess For A Day will be released on DVD this coming Tuesday, September 6th, 2011. Full screen format, it is not rated (safe for all ages!), with a total running time of 107 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $16.99, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $13.99 as of this posting. (Netflix users: this title is not currently available, but add it to your DVD queue to be notified when it is)

I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
