I try so hard to be nice - or at least polite - to others when we go shopping. I always say please or thank you, tell the checkout clerk to have a nice a day, have some small talk. I worked retail, I know how tedious it can be to stand there for hours.
We always hold the door open for anyone close to us. I did it three times the other day - not one person said thank you. Hello, manners anyone?
If we go shopping, folks either hog the entire aisle - and ignore me when I say excuse me - or shove their carts so fast past you they end up grazing you. And an "oops, I'm sorry"? Totally not in their vocabulary.

And do not get me started in on the kids. Holy smokes, if my daughter behaved like some of these kids we've seen lately, I'd never let her leave the house! The kids were so bad in Goodwill the other day, I just sat down the one item I had found and we left. I couldn't shop, I couldn't even THINK they were screaming and yelling that loud! Newsflash: You might think your kid is cute, but that doesn't mean the rest of the world does! I'm telling you, if I didn't already have a kid, that would have been permanent birth control right there. Even my daughter's worst tangents were nowhere near those kids! (I think we ran out in fear it would be contagious, OHMYGOSH, I can't even imagine listening to that on a regular basis! I think I'd stab my eardrums just to get rid of the noise!)
Are you noticing more rude people when you go out, or are they just attracted to me like a fly to honey?

I was bitching about that same thing the other day. There are no more manners people suck and they just do not give a damn anymore. It is so annoying it drives me crazy. That is why I am super adamant on making sure my daughter behaves when were out and making super sure she says her please and thanks you's.
I agree! I try to be pleasant even if the person is being a jerk but sometimes they catch me on the wrong day and forget it! I go off in English and Spanish.
Some people are rude and they teach their kids to be the same way. If you say something to the kids, forget it. Something like excuse me, I need to pass and thank you. The parents go off on you or give you the stink eye. No manners!
OH MY GOD. People always look at me like I'm crazy when I complain about other shoppers in a store. People go sllowww and they're always in the way, analyzing the very thing I want to buy, and analyzing it forever. Then calling over a roommate or significant other. TO DISCUSS IT SOME MORE. ARGH!!!
Maybe I'm just getting cranky in my old age. It just seems like people are always ready to shove you aside to get to what they want and I can't stand it. I used to love shopping. Not so much these days.
