DVD Review: JEM And The Holograms Season One

My family and I recently received a copy of Jem And The Holograms: Season One on DVD to review.

Ahh, it's time for a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Jem And The Holograms was one of my favorite cartoons back in the 80's. This musical cartoon follows Jerrica Benton, who inherits part of a music company called Starlight Music. She is now co-owner alongside Eric Raymond, and evil, conniving man who wants complete control of the company. To save the company, she becomes part of a pop band called Jem and The Holograms, thanks to a special pair of earrings and a computer holographic machine called Synergy - which her father also created. No one knows who pink haired Jem really is, thanks to Synergy. Can they save Starlight Music from the latest mishaps caused by Eric, and will they outdo their competition, a band called The Misfits?

Jem And The Holograms: Season One is finally released onto DVD with all 26 episodes from season one onto four discs. There is a bonus feature on the discs: a video jukebox that allows you to play the "music videos" from the series.

For diehard fans, all three seasons have been simultaneously released in one set as well. This one has a lot more bonus content, although it makes it a toss up as to whether you want to snag it now, or wait in hopes that the complete set is released onto Blu-Ray down the road. I'm just already thrilled that they have remembered this fun series existed, and have released them onto DVD so I can share it with my daughter.

Jem And The Holograms: Season One will be released tomorrow, October 11th, 2011. The four disc set has a total running time of 600 minutes long. Not rated, it's safe for all ages. The suggested retail price is $29.93, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $21.99 as of this posting. (Netflix users: this title is not currently available, but add it to your queue to be notified when it is)

I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
