The Arcade Essentials Evolution is a collection of five arcade games that are enhanced versions of several of the well-known arcade games of the 80's. These games were designed in the authentic visual style, so they would feel like the 80's arcades, but with modern graphics, special effects and sounds. The five games are Lunar Parking, Smashout, Vulcanoids, Toader and Scolopendra.
Enter game night in our family, which turns into duke 'em out duels between DH and myself. Neither of us like to loose, and it's generally harder for me to beat DH at games, because he spends way more time gaming than me. It's an unfair advantage, I tell ya. ;) I love my 80's nostalgia, so I was excited to try out the Arcade Essentials Evolution. The games are simple, and therefore right up my alley. ;)
The one player games are easy to play, and you can turn off the music (which could get annoying after awhile) as well as the sound - or keep one or the other on. The graphics are simple, and so are the games - you are basically shooting things or moving them around. It keeps track of the high score, so you can get bragging rights. ;) The younger crowd who is used to more complex games probably won't get too into it, but the appeal is there for us slightly older gamers who can't resist the call of old arcade style gaming - especially at a low price of $4.99 to download it from the PSN store. Care to check out a video of the game?
