If You Work In Healthcare...

I don't want to see you walking through the grocery stores or sitting in a restaurant wearing your scrubs.

I've washed my husband's scrubs, I KNOW what it comes in contact with: bodily fluids, germs, medications that get spilled etc. I don't want you bringing a trail of these items into public places! You took nursing/veterinarian/health classes - you know as well as I do how easy it is to spread germs, so why do you do it?

L-A-Z-I-N-E-S-S. Repeat after me: LAZINESS. It is super easy to change in and out of scrubs - that's why they are made that way - so why can't you change in and out of your scrubs before and after work? If you don't want to take the time to change, then go home - don't go in public! Even if you are simply in the front office, you are still near people (or pets) who could be carrying the flu virus and other diseases!

If the hospital would like to provide a place to change into and out of scrubs or even provide scrubs i will be happy to oblige you and the other germaphobes and change out of scrubs.
Otherwise, if on the RARE occasion i have to run an errand at 7am after stumbling exhausted out of the hospital; i will happily drag my tired self through the store.

Ok I rarely comment on a healthcare issue (I am a nurse)I do agree with to a point. I work in a hospital in an "office setting". I have no patient contact, we are actually "locked in". I choose to wear scrubs instead of "casual office attire" since its so easy and there is no thinking involved. Oh also it is so much cheaper! Now I do really see your point, however as usual there is no catch all for everything. People work in many places where people are sick, and yes what about the grocery store cart handles? Yes I know most stores have wipes, but really? I too do many errands after work in my scrubs, no judging here especially if people's snot nosed kids go all over. :)Marilyn

Anon: The last two places my husband has worked, my DH has had to change in the employee restroom.

It's not just being a germophobe, it's the flu and things like MRSA spreading.

Marilyn: I understand your situation is a little bit different, but the majority of folks who wear scrubs do come into contact. I would never dream of letting my husband, knowing what he can come in contact with, go into a store wearing them.

Oh, and snotty nosed kids? Ick!

However controversial this issue might be for some, I applaud you Storm for bringing it out in the open.
I cannot say I have no qualms about a nurse/doctor/MA/CNA shopping in their scrubs!
Please think as it works both ways: you are coming in contact with zillion germs in say store/pumping gas for i.e. and then you come to see me, the patient, waiting patiently in your office!
Ahem...
Blessings to all,
