Review: BabyLit Books

It's no secret that we love books around here, is it? I grew up in a household with a love of books, and it was very important to me that I pass the love of reading onto my daughter. Her bookshelf is overflowing, and I never say no to reading a book aloud to her. I started reading many of the classics myself when I was six - from Huckleberry Finn to Moby Dick - so I'd love to see her do the same thing. This is one of the reasons why I was so excited to hear about the new BabyLit series!

BabyLit brings classic writers like Lewis Carroll, Charlotte Bronte, Jane Austen, and William Shakespeare to toddlers by creating oversized board books with bright colors and easy to understand words. Written by Jennifer Adams and illustrated by Alison Oliver, the Baby Lit series brings literature alive for the little ones. Some are counting primers, like Jane Eyre : Little Miss Bronte, while others like Little Master Carroll : Alice In Wonderland simply share important words that sum up the story.

Even though my daughter at the age of three is getting past the main age range for the books, she loved the pictures, especially from Alice In Wonderland. The counting primers help her work on her numbers. I am so pleased to have been introduced to this series of books! (Here's hoping there's an Edgar Allan Poe book in the works! Please, please, please!)

The suggested cover price for each of the BabyLit books is $9.99 each. Several of the books are now available for the iPad and iPhone, for reading on the go. Published by Gibbs-Smith, you can purchase the books at your favorite bookstore, or online via sites like Amazon.

I received several of the books mentioned above in order to read them and share my thoughts on them. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
