Book Review: Buying America Back By Alan Uke
I recently received a copy of the new book Buying America Back: A Real-Deal Blueprint For Restoring American Prosperity by Alan Uke to review.
Over the last 30 years, America has changed. Instead of us having factories in nearly every big city where we made our own products, we're importing more and more. Walk into just about any store, and you'll find the "Made in America" items sadly outnumbered by the Made in *insert foreign country of choice* here items. Is it a coincidence the quality of products have gone downhill in the same time frame? Maybe, maybe not. For me though, if I can't buy it used for my family, I look for made in America first. Not only does it help to keep my carbon footprint down, it also means I can support someone like me and keep our money here in the USA. I'm all for cheaper, but there is only so cheap we can get before destroy everything around us. I don't want my great score to come at the expense of the rainforest, for instance. I want my food grown here in the USA, packaged here in the USA, and for pete's sake - I want my shoes made here in America! (Have you looked at shoes lately? It's impossible to find American made shoes! Not to mention - they fall apart so quickly!) Unfortunately, just because a tag does say Made in America, doesn't mean it really is. Sure, it can be assembled here, but the pieces might have been made elsewhere!
Buying America Back came about one day when the author was complaining at the dinner table and his daughter suggested he write a book. The author is passionate and means what he says - he's not just saying it in order to sell books. In fact, Mr. Uke is leading a grassroots movement to pass a bill through Congress that would mandate better Country of Origin Labeling. When you think about it, buying American is an easy way to stimulate the economy - no taxpayer funds needed. (For more information on the movement, as well as the book, visit the author's site)
If you too, want to create American jobs and support American made sold in American owned stores, pick up a copy of Buying America Back and take a look at what the author was to say. maybe you won't agree with everything said, but it might just help open your eyes. (And yes, the book was made here in the USA)
Buying America Back: A Real-Deal Blueprint For Restoring American Prosperity by Alan Uke is a paperback business & economics book published by SelectBooks. It is 164 pages long. The suggested cover price is $16.95, but Amazon has it available for $9.26 as of this posting. I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
