Book Review: The Naked Mom By Brooke Burke

I recently received a copy of the new book The Naked Mom: A Modern Mom's Fearless Revelations, Savvy Advice, and Soulful Reflections by Brooke Burke to review.

You may recognize Brooke Burke from on the tv show Dancing With The Stars. A mom of four, she is also a co-CEO and a popular blogger at the interactive online community ModernMom.com. She's also a “Mommy Correspondent” on the nationally syndicated daytime talk show The Doctors and a go-to celebrity mom expert on Twitter, where she has more than 1.8 million followers!

I really started to look at Mrs. Burke as a blogger just like one of us and not just a celebrity when she recounted the story of ModernMom.com co founder Lisa and her daughter Chloe losing her beloved toy. We all know what happens when the favorite toy goes missing - toddler hysteria! Just like you and me, she took the blog for helping in finding a replacement. Two readers saved the day and mailed a replacement toy that they just happened to have. Chloe was ecstatic, and you know what? It's a wonderful reminder that the blogging world ROCKS.

In The Naked Mom, Brooke shares with us personal stories - the beginning is about her time on Dancing With The Stars - as well as reminders that Moms are more than just Moms. She explores three major personas that characterize moms everywhere: "The Woman" - where we should take time to focus on ourselves, "The Mother" - where we should empower ourselves and instead strive to be self-aware, and "The Lover" - where we need to remember that sexuality and motherhood are not mutually exclusive. Moms need to learn how to set the mood, play out a fantasy, and reconnect with their mate.

She also reminds us that there is no simple step-by-step path to the Perfect Body, the Perfect Relationship, or the Perfect Career. Life is filled with chaos, and we can either embrace that chaos, or go live alone on a very tall mountain in our sweats. (Well... LOL)

For me personally, I've already learned to embrace the chaos that comes with having a family and houseful of pets. What I'm completely guilty of is not taking enough time for myself. If I put myself first more, I probably wouldn't be dealing with health problems and would not have had to spend those days in the hospital. (Hindsight is always 20/20... sigh!)

A lot of celebrity books can make you roll your eyes and say of course it's easy! Such and such has a personal trainer, a nanny, and a housekeeper! I don't! but I really didn't get that feeling from Brooke Burke. When I say she felt like a blogger like many of us, she really did. Sure, her life is a little different from mine (and yours), but look at the blogging world - no two of us are alike. We live in different places, with different amounts of family members, different jobs, different lifestyles - but when it comes down to it, we're all moms. If you're looking for an interesting read right now that doesn't just scream self-help (even though it is, when it comes down to it), then you'll want to read this book.

The Naked Mom: A Modern Mom's Fearless Revelations, Savvy Advice, and Soulful Reflections by Brooke Burke is a paperback book published by New American Library. It is 320 pages long. The suggested cover price is $15.00, but Amazon has it available for $10.98 as of this posting. It is also available as a hardcover and an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.

I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.

Sounds like this one is a winner! I agree with you that too often, the self help books do not apply to our lifestyle but this one is worth checking out. Thanks for sharing,
