According to my DH, finding out you're going to be a dad goes from being excited (you have an excuse to play with toys!) to overwhelmed in about 5 seconds flat. We have a three year old, and he's already planning how to handle when she brings a boy home. (it involves sharpening knives and cleaning guns. LOL!!!)
Even though he had been around kids a lot more than me, he still has those "What do I do know?" panic attacks, like thinking about her going to college and how we'll pay for it, to how to deal with his daughter not feeling well - even though you'd think that one would be easy being a nurse. He flips out worse than me if she has the sniffles!
Stuff Every Dad Should Know shares simple tips from birth to adulthood, from "How To Rid A Room Of Monsters" to the later years in "How To Handle The First Ticket Or Car Accident" (Simple - don't let her learn to drive in our case. LOL). It even covers things in between like "How To Arm Your Kid Against Peer Pressure" and "The Birds And The Bees" - two subjects that are never easy to handle.
Like it's counterpart, Stuff Every Mom Should Know by Heather Gibbs Flett and Whitney Moss, Stuff Every Dad Should Know is great as a small gift for Father's Day or as a gift to take to the baby shower for Dad so he doesn't feel too left out. The book has some great little advice in it, and while it won't cover every subject you need to know, can help maybe take a tiny bit of stress out of Dad's future.
Stuff Every Dad Should Know by Brett Cohen is a hardcover gift book published by Quirk and will be released on May 1st, 2012. It is 144 pages long. The suggested cover price is $9.95, and you can purchase a copy at your favorite local bookstore or online via sites like Amazon.com. It is also available as an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.
I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
