DVD Review: Roseanne: The Complete Third Season
I recently received a copy of the new DVD Roseanne: The Complete Third Season to review.
One of the funniest comedy sitcoms to come out of the 80's, Roseanne followed Roseanne Connor, her husband Dan, three kids Becky, Darlene, and DJ, and an assortment of supporting cast like her sister Jackie as they survive suburban life. The DVD contains all 25 episodes from this season. In season three, Roseanne gets a job at a diner in the mall as a waitress, Dan ends up opening a motorcycle shop, Becky starts dating her parents' worst nightmare in Mark, and Dan freaks out when his Dad marries Roseanne's best friend Crystal - who just happens to be pregnant. (Oops!)
Here's the complete episode list: "The Test", "Friends & Relatives", "Like A Virgin", "Like A New Job", "Goodbye Mr. Right", "Becky, Beds & Boys", "Trick Or Treat", "PMS, I Love You", "Bird Is The Word", "Dream Lover", "Do You Know Where Your Parents Are?", "Confessions", "The Courtship Of Eddie, Dan's Father", "The Wedding", "Becky Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "Home-Ec", "Valentine's Day", "Communicable Theater", "Vegas Interruptus", "Her Boyfriend's Back", "Troubles With The Rubbles", "Second Time Around", "Dances With Darlene", "Scenes From A Barbecue", and "The Pied Piper Of Lanford".
The three disc DVD set does include a few bonus features: "The Sister That Never Leaves" (ie - Jackie!), "I Was A Teenaged Becky", which is an interview with Lecy Goranson, who played Becky. It also includes a round up of "The Best Of Season Three" clips. All three are just under ten minutes each.
While I don't always agree with everything that pops out of Roseanne's mouth, and how she handles certain situations, the older I get, the more I appreciate her humor. I really didn't get a lot of it until I was married and had a kid of my own. (Six years later, it's like "Dude - get it yourself! I'm not your maid!" LOL) "Home-Ec" just happens to be one of my favorite episodes from this show, where Roseanne ends up teaching Darlene's home economics class just how you really run a household in 80's suburbia, and takes the class shopping at the grocery store.

Roseanne: The Complete Third Season is available now wherever DVD's are sold. Rated PG (some crass humor and adult situations), the total running time is 10 hours and 8 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $14.98, but Amazon has it available for just $6.49 as of this posting. (Netflix folks: this show is not currently available for instant streaming, but you can add the DVD's to your DVD queue)
I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
