Review & Giveaway: Dropps Fabric Softener Pacs

I spend more time doing laundry than any other chore in my home. It's a love/hate relationship. I get tired of it, but I love taking the time to take care of the clothes we buy. I still have t-shirts I wore when I was 12 (yes, I still wear them sometimes!) because I take good care of them, and I am careful with what laundry products I use. (and I line dry them!) I won't buy just any laundry care product - this is one part of my budget where I don't look at price first. (Although I stock up on sale!) I like ones that don't destroy the fibers of our clothes, get them clean with little product, and alright - at least smell good when I am putting it in the washer.


Dropps, makers of the really neat laundry detergent pacs, recently launched their new Fabric Softener Pacs. Just like the Dropps laundry pacs, these new Dropps Fabric Softener Pacs are toss and go. But unlike other fabric softeners, Dropps uses tiny minerals that flow through fabric fibers instead of clogging them like liquid softeners. This means your clothes are breathable and free of many of the chemicals found in other fabric softeners. It's available in Lavender, Wild Orchid, and Orange Blossom scents. (Unfortunately, not in unscented yet for those with allergies - maybe in the future?)


Dropps sent me on over a package of the Fabric Softener Pacs in Orange Blossom to try out. Since my surgery a couple of months ago, DH has been helping me out here and there with laundry duty. He tries, bless him, but he struggles with measuring the liquids out. (he keeps saying he see the measuring lines on the lids. lol) The Dropps Fabric Softener Pacs kind of save the day - he can help me do the laundry, and I'm not in panic mode that he's using way too much product!

The scent when opening the package is definitely orange-y! You simply toss one pac (or two for extra large loads) in the water alongside the detergent pac (or your liquid laundry of choice). You don't place this one in the dispenser - not that it would have fit into mine, anyways. I was a little concerned about adding in the fabric softener pac alongside the detergent - I thought maybe it would be rinsed out too soon. But in it went! When the load was finished, I could still smell the scent. Now we have issues with our water, so by the time I get my laundry out of the dryer when I use it, I never smell scent, no matter how hard I try, so I cannot comment on that part. But my laundry was static free!

Now the Fabric Softener Pacs are safe for both top loader AND HE washers. The pac is supposed to help cut out the extra, once-common rinse cycle step. (Although I didn't notice a difference with my washer time BUT it's over 30 years old, so it acts differently than the newer ones!) Because it's not loaded with chemicals, you can use it on baby clothing as well as flame retardant sleepwear. You can also use it in cold or hot water loads - and since it's the same as a liquid, you'll get the softness and no static cling too if you line dry your laundry.

For those on a septic system, Dropps are biodegradable and safe. The formula is actually created from a clay material and is naturally formed from a chemical alteration of volcanic ash. And for my fellow recycling folks, you can join the Dropps Laundry Detergent Pouch Brigade that partners with TerraCycle to send in your empty pouches for recycling! (They have postage paid labels for you to use, so it's not cost to you.)
