Review & Giveaway: Sunstar GUM Star Wars Toothbrushes

If you - or a family member - is a Star Wars geek, then you probably already know that The Phantom Menace is has been re-released in 3D. ;) Sunstar GUM recently launched a new line of Star Wars toothbrushes in the spirit of this re-release that is sure to make all Star Wars fans a little more excited to brush their teeth. Alongside several manual toothbrushes that were recently released, they have also created Power and Lightsaber brushes with the intent of encouraging children (and husbands! LOL) to brush more often.

As adults, we probably brush our teeth regularly, and the correct way, but it can be hard to motivate kids to understand why they need to brush their teeth several times a day, and to do it properly. Kids think a quick scrub that last two seconds is more than enough, and we know it's not. That's why as a parent I love products that help motivate my daughter to brush her teeth when she wakes up and before she goes to bed. Kids should be brushing their teeth for two minutes at least twice a day - and two minutes is a LONG time for a child.

Sunstar GUM sent me on over some of their new Power and Lightsaber brushes that included Darth Vader and Rex, as well as a blue lightsaber and a red one. Alas, I'm married to a Star Wars geek myself, and DH went NUTS over them when they arrived. (Who's the kid again? LOL)

Luckily for DH, our daughter was way more interested in the light up lightsabers than the Power toothbrushes, so DH didn't have to duke it out too badly with her for the Vader toothbrush. Yes, my husband is now brushing his teeth with a child's toothbrush. Sigh! Actually, it's worked out great, because they have "Use The Force" battles before bedtime for my daughter at night. The Lightsaber brushes have a one minute timer with a flashing light, while the power brushes don't. And the neat part about the power character toothbrushes is that they have suction cups on the bottom of them, so they don't easily fall over from the counter like some of the other power toothbrushes available on the market.

If you have a family of geeks too, you can encourage your children (and husbands! lol) to Brush Like a Jedi™ and help them defend against cavities by brushing their teeth with the GUM Star Wars toothbrushes! The Power brushes are available with Darth Vader and Clone Captain Rex, and the Lightsaber toothbrushes are available with Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and Darth Vader. They retail for $3.49 to $5.99, and you can purchase them at your favorite big box and grocery stores, as well as online through the Sunstar GUM website. If you're interested in purchasing online, right now you can receive 10% off and free shipping on your order using promo code DTSWG at checkout, now through May 12th, 2012.

Win it! Thanks to Sunstar GUM, one lucky reader will win a GUM Star Wars toothbrush combo pack featuring an assortment of Star Wars character brushes. To enter, tell us how you get the child(ren) in your life to brush their teeth. Bribery? (LOL) Fun toothbrushes? Timers? Share!

And as always, you can receive extra entries for:

I think fun toothbrushes are the best way to keep them excited about brushing. Both my boys just got over being sick with a virus and they were SO excited to go into the closet and pick out new brushes. It is always a big event when it is time to change brushes.

I've always used reverse-psychology to get my kids to brush their teeth. I tell them that its a grown-up only thing to do, kids shouldn't bother and that they're lucky that I let the brush. Trust me, one night of whining and me "not letting" jr. brush his teeth and he hasn't fought me on it ever again. He thinks he's getting away with something.

I don't have children, but if I did, I would show them how many teeth my mom has already lost, and I'd let them know about how my dad had to have all his teeth pulled by the time he was my age (46). Even though I haven't gone regularly to the dentist until last year, I'm blessed with very few dental problems, and I believe it's because I have always brushed twice a day every day since I was in elementary school. It makes a real difference.
