Review & Giveaway: Wholesale Costume Club
Renaissance Faire time is just around the corner. We love to dress up to attend these and other faires, so we keep a collection of costumes ready to go. DH, however, has been complaining that his costumes were too hot last year - in all fairness, he was wearing black velvet in 80+ degree weather, so maybe he has the right to complain lol - so I've been searching for some new options that would be a little cooler for him. It's hard though to find pieces that fit him since he's still a little on the chunky side so I have to look for sites that sell plus sized costumes.
Wholesale Costume Club had some interesting costume ideas for him - and most importantly, in his size range. After spending an hour debating what costume he liked best (he's worse than a teenage girl!), he finally decided on the Medieval Monk with Wig Plus Costume. It was one size fits most, up to 300 pounds so we knew it would fit with plenty of room so it wouldn't be clingy. Here's the picture from the website:
It comes with the robe, hood with capelet, wig and rope belt. (The cross you see in the photo isn't included, but that's OK because DH wouldn't have worn it, anyways). When it arrived, the first thing I noticed is that the fabric was a gauzy lightweight, not too thin that it would tear easily, but thick enough that if the light shined at it, you wouldn't be able to see through it. The fabric can be easily hand washed/line dried. DH loved the fabric because he said it felt like it could breathe and he wouldn't be so hot. The rope belt was a good weight too - it definitely will last for several seasons worth of costume wearing. DH is thrilled with this costume, because he said he can also use it as an Obi Won Kenobi costume - LOL! Here he is wearing it:
Yes, Corgi in the photo. lol The costume has a retail value of $54.99, but Wholesale Costume Club sells it for $34.98, and if you're a member of their club, you can snag it a little cheaper for $31.96. I liked the price, because we all know how dirty those fields can be, and if it gets ruined, I won't complain so much as if he wore a $200 outfit.
Wholesale Costume Club has $5.99 flat rate shipping, no matter how much or how little you purchase. If you're interested in having a membership, it costs just $5 per year, which you can save if you purchase more than one costume during that time. (A family of four buying four costumes would definitely save more than the $5 membership cost!) They have tons of other great costume ideas, be sure to check out the site for more costumes!
