Blu-Ray Review: Beautiful Planet: Spain/Portugal
My family and I recently received a copy of the new Blu-Ray Beautiful Planet: Spain/Portugal to review.
I would spend my days traveling from one country to another if I still could, but those days are long over now that I have a family. This episode of Beautiful Planet takes us to the historical sites in Spain and Portugal, showing the viewer architecture, monuments, and tourist hot spots in panning views. The narrator tells you more about the history of each site, such as when it was built, and what went on there. Some of the sites shown are off the beaten track from the regular tours you can take. If you can't visit these sites in person, watching it on the TV and learning more about it is the next best thing.
Like I mentioned on my Beautiful Planet: France/Italy review, there's some good, but it's outweighed by the bad. For a Blu-Ray disc, the picture quality is incredibly disappointing. I expect better when the cover of the DVD says "Stunning High-Definition". The music and narrating also left much to be desired. It was almost like somebody dropped the ball on this one - there's no excuse for the picture, music and narrating not to be better.
There are no special features included on this disc.
I really hate to say a DVD is disappointing, but this one was to me. Should you be interested in viewing it for yourself though, you can save 25% off your purchase via TV Flashbacks now through May 15th, 2012 at this link here using promo code TVPLANET25
Beautiful Planet: Spain/Portugal is available now on Blu-Ray. Widescreen format, it is rated TV-G and is safe for all ages. The total running time is 3 hours, 45 minutes. The suggested retail price is $9.98, but Amazon has it available for $4.99 as of this posting.
I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.

Oh dear, blu ray again! Like your family, mine loves documentaries so I will have to keep it in mind!
We just watched it tonight (hubby is from Portugal and my father is from Spain, although I've never traveled there) and we were very impressed with all the architecture. I wish it had shown more of the people, landscapes, and food (Spanish food is my favorite!). The narrator was not good at all. But I thought the picture quality was fine, and it definitely made us want to go there.
