Book Review: Objects Of My Affection: A Novel By Jill Smolinski

I recently received a copy of the new book Objects Of My Affection: A Novel by Jill Smolinski to review.

Lucy Bloom isn't exactly having a lot of luck: she's broke, dumped by her boyfriend, and forced to sell her home in order to send her nineteen year old son to rehab. She's gets a break when she's offered a job to help de-clutter the home of eccentric painter Marva Meier Rios. Lucy is bound and determined to use this to her advantage to get her life back on track, and tackles the mess that fills every room of Marva's home. It's not as easy as it would seem though, as Marva is a hoarder with an emotional tie to just about everything in the home. Time is ticking though, as there is a strict deadline to get the house ready - and Lucy has other problems with her son's rehab not going exactly as planned, either. But as time passes, Lucy and Marva form a bond, learning from each other - thanks to a big secret that was being hidden.

If you're looking for a good book to take along on vacation or to the beach this summer, Objects Of My Affection is one you can zone out to and not worry you're going to loose sight of details if you are interrupted a few times. The two women are extremely different, and yet end of being the best of friends - something a lot of people could learn from. Now if the thought of hoarding makes your heart go into panic mode, look at it this way - it's written, so you don't have to see the dirty clutter if you don't want to like if you were watching it on TV. ;) Stuff vs the anti-stuff - and yet, neither is right at first glance when you think about it. I enjoyed this one!

Objects Of My Affection: A Novel by Jill Smolinski is a hardcover fiction book published by Touchstone. It is 320 pages long. The suggested cover price is $24.99, but Amazon has it available for $16.14 as of this posting. It is also available as an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.

I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
