CD Review: RAM - Paul And Linda McCartney
I recently received a copy of Paul and Linda McCartney's newly remastered CD set RAM to review, which is available today wherever CDs are sold.
Originally released back in 1971, RAM is the latest album from Paul's iconic back catalog to get the deluxe Paul McCartney Archive Collection treatment. It is the only album to be credited to both Paul and Linda McCartney and was Paul's second post-Beatles LP, even though it was overshadowed at the time by the drama of The Beatles' breaking up. Paul and Linda wrote RA mostly at their Scottish farm on the Mull of Kintyre, and the album gave Paul his first solo US number 1 single with "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey", alongside a Grammy win for Best Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists.
RAM has be released across a variety of formats with new and exclusive content including a beautifully packaged Deluxe Edition Box Set, as well as old school vinyl, and of course, your every day CD. The set I received is a 3 disc set that contains the remastered album, a second bonus audio CD, and a DVD with bonus film.
CD 1 contains:
1. "Too Many People"
2. "3 Legs"
3. "Ram On"
4. "Dear Boy"
5. "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey"
6. "Smile Away"
7. "Heart Of The Country"
8. "Monkberry Moon Delight"
9. "Eat At Home"
10. "Long Haired Lady"
11. "Ram On"
12. "The Back Seat Of My Car"
CD 2 contains:
1. "Another Day"
2. "Oh Woman, Oh Why"
3. "Little Woman Love"
4. "A Love For You" (John Kelly Mix)
5. "Hey Diddle" (Dixon Van Winkle Mix)
6. "Great Cock And Seagull Race" (Dixon Van Winkle Mix)
7. "Rode All Night"
8. "Sunshine Sometime" (Earliest Mix)
The DVD contains:
1. Ramming (15 minute documentary piece about the album)
2. Heart of the Country (promo video)
3. 3 Legs (promo video)
4. Hey Diddle (Paul & Linda performing the track in Scotland not used before in its entirety)
5. Eat At Home On Tour (Behind the scenes footage from 1972 European tour)
If you are looking for a fabulous gift for Father's Day for a Paul McCartney or Beatles fan, this is it. There's not much that can be said about the sets that wasn't already said when the CD was originally released back in 1971, other than they are all wonderful ways to preserve music history. All songs are also available to download instantly, if you'd rather skip over the extra goodies and just head straight for the music.
As of this moment, you can stream two songs from the RAM album for free - "Uncle Albert/ Admiral Halsey" and "Too Many People".
I received a copy of this CD in order to listen to it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
