DVD Review: Level Up: The Movie
My family and I recently received a copy of the new DVD Level Up: The Movie to review.
What if your favorite video game suddenly came to life - and not in a good way? Wyatt, Lyle, and Dante are high schoolers who have nothing to do with each other in real life - but love playing the same video game together. After an accident at a local military base, this unlikely trio accidentally ends up opening a portal in the virtual game into the real world, allowing not only spam to get loose in real life - but trolls and the game's evil villain, Maldark. Can the trio work together to stop Maldark from overtaking the real wold?
The DVD also contains two special features - a music video of “The Bomb” by Pigeon John, and an episode from Level Up The Series called "Wanted".
A jock, a dork, and a misfit - sounds like an 80's movie waiting to happen, right? ;) This is live action with some CGI effects (how else are you going to get some nifty trolls on the screen?), and it originally aired on Cartoon Network. The movie itself was rather funny at times - even from an adult's point of view (and the gamer husband, who was thrilled at the LEERRROOOOYY JENKINS! lines) If your tween or teen (or husband!) loves video games - especially role playing ones like World of Warcraft - and they haven't seen this yet, they'll love it!
Level Up: The Movie is available now wherever DVD's are sold. Rated TV-PG-V, the total running time is 69 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $19.97, but Amazon has it available for $14.96 as of this posting.
I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
