How Do You Lift A Curse?
...because I am really starting to wonder!
On top of a week with more unexpected medical bills rolling in, Saturday we headed out to Auburn to attend Petpalooza. On the way home, the truck had the SAME issue happen again! We pulled over to the side of the road, and DH went to pop in the spare fuse we had been given. Apparently, the whole circuit board must have been having trouble this time, because the fuse didn't fix it like the last time. :( So, we were stuck waiting on the side of I-5 again, this time with all of us, since we even had the dogs with us!
...first things first, let me warn anyone who doesn't already know this: If you have AAA, spring for the extra cash to get the plus membership, because otherwise, your tow only goes for a certain amount of miles. If you have the plus, they can tow you up to 100 miles for free. Second, it only covers up to four service calls, per membership year - so if you have a wonky vehicle, be aware of this! After that, it's five miles and anything after that, you pay per mile. And third, they don't allow for carseats or pets to go in the tow truck, so if you are stranded with kids and pets, you'll have to make arrangements. (Oh, and FYI for those with the same interests and sense of humor as us: AAA doesn't include hearses.)
As you can guess, I ended up with one BIG headache. DH was able to ride in the tow truck, but that left us! I had to cross through the meridian grass and traffic to a side street very carefully with only what I could carry to wait almost an hour for a ride. Luckily, I practice what I preach when it comes to preparedness, and I was able to make it as comfortable for us as I could - I even had grabbed a towel for the dogs to lie on (the area on the corner where we were waiting was gravel) and the awesome Hydro-go! Pet Canteen that I have previously reviewed and HIGHLY recommend for any other dog owners who travel with their dogs
Anyways, as I type this we are vehicle less until at the very least tomorrow - I am hoping they can figure out what on earth is going on with it without costing us a fortune because I am well past the panic attack stage and about to have a heart attack! (So much for keeping my stress levels down, I'm telling you!) Plus, DH has to be back in at work early Tuesday morning, so if it's not ready, we'll have to pay for a cab. Sigh!

Ugh. Sounds like a nightmare. I hope they get it fixed and SOON! :)
I'm just getting ready to enroll in AAA, so these are great things to know!
We don't have AAA (bit different situation than you), but I've noticed over the years that everyone who has it says they have to wait a long time to be towed. I can't help but wonder, would you be better off not having it, putting the fees aside in a contingency fund, and calling whatever tow company can come immediately? Just a thought. Those restrictions seem unreasonable. Especially that hearse one. I mean really, who wants to get stuck by the side of the road on their last day on earth? Good luck with repairs.
