Edens Edge is a country trio from Arkansas comprised of members Hannah Blaylock, Dean Berner, and Cherrill Green. Their debut album of the same name recently dropped, and the first single off the CD was "Amen". It quickly climbed up the charts and became a Top 20 song, no small feat in a musical field full of big household names. (Let's face it, even if you don't listen to country, thanks to the proliferation of musical reality shows like American Idol and The Voice, you can generally rattle off at least five big huge country star names, if not more like a dozen.) As you'll guess from the song list below, their lyrics have a bit more of a religious tone to it than some of songs you'll find on country radio these days - these folks are just keeping to their small town roots where everyone goes to church on Sundays. All the band members grew up singing in church, band member Cherrill was a part of the family band, learning to play the mandolin at a young age.
Here's the offical track listing:
1. "Amen"
2. "Swingin' Door"
3. "Skinny Dippin'"
4. "Too Good To Be True"
5. "Last Supper"
6. "Feels So Real"
7. "Who Am I Drinking Tonight"
8. "Liar"
9. "Cherry Pie"
10. "Christ Alone"
I was already a little familiar with Edens Edge before this CD arrived on my doorstep, thanks to "Amen" being played quite a bit on The Wolf here. One of the best parts about debut albums is that you don't really have any expectations built up about a group and you're not disappointed when the sound doesn't do much for you - as is the case for me with this CD. I liked it, and if it came on the radio, I'd leave it on, but overall it was nothing to write home about. In other words, if you're not already a country fan, I don't think this one will convert you. ;) "Who Am I Drinking Tonight" and "Amen" were my personal favorites off the CD. I'd definitely be curious to see how CD #2 will turn out when that times comes.
You'll find Edens Ege on tour this summer with Rascall Flatts. Visit the band's website here to find out when they are coming to your town.

I received a copy of this CD thanks to Big Machine Records in order to listen to it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
