DVD Review: G.I. Joe: Renegades: Season 1, Volume 1
My family and I recently received a copy of the new DVD G.I. Joe: Renegades: Season 1, Volume 1 to review.
Back in the 80's, G.I Joe was as hot as The Transformers. Now, we have G.I. Joe: Renegades, which was launched back in 2010, featuring many of the same beloved characters - but with a bit of a twist from the original storyline. The Joes have been branded as renegades for a crime they didn't commit - a spy mission against Cobra Industries that has gone wrong. Now the young Joes - Duke, Scarlett, Roadblock, Tunnel Rat, Ripcord, Breaker, and Snake Eyes - must use their elite training to prove their innocence to the world before they are caught by the authorities, COBRA - or even worse, a new elite military team called the Falcons.
Volume One contains the first 13 episodes of Season One: "The Descent, Part 1", "The Descent, Part 2", "Rage", "Dreadnoks Rising", "The Package", "Return of the Arashikage, Part 1", "Return of the Arashikage, Part 2", "Busted", "The Enemy of my Enemy", "Fire Fight", "Homecoming, Part 1", "Homecoming, Part 2", and "Brothers of Light".
While there are no special features on this two disc set, be on the lookout for packages that contain a $5.00 e-movie cash offer to see the new G.I. Joe Retaliation movie in theaters on June 29th. There's a sticker on the package that will tell you it's inside the DVD box.
DH, being a true 80's boy toy geek, has a love-hate relationship with a lot of these cartoon reincarnations. On one hand, he loves that there are new story lines... on the other hand, he hates some of the changes, especially the animation. That's the case with G.I. Joe: Renegades. I thought I heard him gripe about Cobra Commander in the first G.I. Joe.... he was worse with this one! (I kind of have to agree with him)
G.I. Joe: Renegades: Season 1, Volume 1 will be available this Tuesday, June 5th, 2012. Rated Tv-Y7, it has the usual cartoon violence, and is definitely geared more towards boys than girls. The total running time is 5 hours. The suggested retail price is $19.93, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $15.93 as of this posting.
I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
