Review: BrainStrong

Do you take a multivitamin every day? No? Are you trying to get pregnant? If the answer is yes, you need to be taking one! It's recommended that you actually start taking a prenatal vitamin as soon as you decide to start trying for a baby so your baby gets all of the nutrients he or she needs at conception.

While every expectant mother knows the importance of folic acid and getting enough vitamins, many overlook the significance of getting enough DHA in their diets. Docosahexaenoic acid, or DHA, is an omega-3 fatty acid commonly found in cold-water fish, and is an key part of prenatal and newborn brain and eye development. A baby depends on its mother for its supply of DHA, making this a central aspect of prenatal care. If you're not fond of fish (ahem, that would be me!), avoiding it because of mercury/contamination, or you're wanting to be absolutely sure you're getting enough, check out BrainStrong Prenatal.

BrainStrong Prenatal Vitamins has 350mg of DHA. It is powered by algae-sourced life’sDHA, which means it doesn'’t contain the harmful chemicals and toxins found in many fish, and it's available without prescription, so you can start taking it as you as you are trying to have a baby, rather than wait until you get that BFP (that's big fat positive!). On top of that fabulous DHA, it's got everything else you need in it from folic acid to iron.

The folks over at BrainStrong sent me on over a package of their BrainStrong Prenatal to try out. It comes in a 30 day supply. the first thing I noticed was rather than a bottle, it comes in individually packaged portions for each day - which is awesome if you're traveling, or waiting to take it at mealtime and you're eating out. Each of those portions contains one prenatal multivitamin tablet, as well as one DHA softgel - so essentially you are taking two pills a day together. They are super easy to take, and they are giving me confidence that I am helping to make my body healthier. (and maybe MY brain better too? lol) I'll definitely continue taking these!

They also sent on over a package of the BrainStrong Adult for DH to try out. This one supports mental clarity naturally, helping to protect against normal cognitive decline as we age. The DHA also comes from a vegetarian source! This one comes in bottle form, and you take three softgels a day. You can take them all at once, or spread them out throughout the day with one at each meal time. DH has been taking one in the morning, and then two with dinner. He likes that these are softgels, and says that they are easier for him to swallow compared to some of the "horsepills" I've made him take in the past! LOL Now it's geared for folks ages 55 and over, but it can also helps those who are younger. If you think I'm scatterbrained at times, you should see my DH - trust me when I say I'll try anything to keep him on Planet Earth! ;)

You can purchase both BrainStrong Prenatal and BrainStrong Adult at stores like Walgreens, Walmart, and RiteAid. You can also purchase some of their varieties online via their many stores like drugstore.com and Amazon.com. A 30 day supply of BrainStrong Prenatal retails for around $19.99, while a 30 day supply of BrainStrong Adult retails for around $29.99. (cheaper in a few places!)

I received samples of the products shown above in order to try them out in my own home. All opinions are my own, and remember, I'm just a housewife, not a doctor - be sure to discuss any supplements or vitamins with your own doctor before beginning use.

I just started taking the Brainstrong today, So far so good. I usually have issues with prenatal's. I LOVE the fact that these are a vegan source of DHA. I have some heart issues, and every darn prenatal out there has Fish oil, which causes my heart to act up. The brainstrong is fantastic, o issues, and I know I'm taking my recommend dose of Vitamins...

I took Brainstrong Prenatals throughout my entire pregnancy and had a very healthy and very happy little girl in 2012! When I searched for online reviews of women who had taken Brainstrong during their pregnancy I couldn't find anything helpful or reassuring. I have been breastfeeding my baby and my OB recommended that I continue taking my prenatals so I am still taking Brainstrong and my baby could not be healthier or smarter (knock on wood) :)
