Review: Culturelle

An upset tummy can ruin a vacation very quickly! A lot of folks are always careful about what they consume or drink on vacations out of the country, but eating out anywhere can be a digestion landmine, too.

Culturelle Digestive Health Probiotic is a probiotic supplement designed to help maintain overall digestive health by restoring the balance of good bacteria in the digestive system. It also helps to reduce occasional diarrhea, gas and bloating, as well as support the immune system. Culturelle Digestive Health Probiotic also contains Inulin from Chicory root extract, a prebiotic. A natural solution, Culturelle with Lactobacillus GG is trusted by families for digestive and immune health and is supported by an unparalleled 25 years of scientific research. (FYI: none of these statements have been evaluated by the FDA. Then again, if you read my blog, you've probably already figured out exactly what I think about the FDA... so like just about anything in this world, take it with a grain of salt, m'kay?)

Where were we? Oh, yes, talking about Culturelle. The folks behind it sent me on over a few samples of some of their products, including Culturelle Kids! Packets, Culturelle Kids! Chewables, and the Digestive Health.

Now since my surgery, my digestive system has been rather... ornery. Every time I think I've narrowed down what might be giving me issues, something else crops up. Now, it's a bit easier to deal with it when I'm the one cooking at home, but on vacation, or simply just going out to dinner, it is a whole new ballgame. You can ask servers if certain ingredients might be in a dish, but it's honestly hard for them to know everything! Knowing that there is a product available on the market that could help make my tummy a little happier like Culturelle also makes me happier - and able to enjoy my time out of the house a lot better!

The Culterelle Digestive Health is a once daily capsule that is made with a natural dairy free Lactobacillus GG. If you're traveling, it's recommended you start taking 2 tablets daily a few days before you start your trip, just so you can get a good buildup of this in your tummy. If you don't do too well with pills, you can even open the capsule and pour it into a cool drink or food. (Not hot! Heat kills the little bacteria!)

The Culturelle Kids! Packets help support kids digestive systems. Created for kids 25 to 50 pounds (as long as they are over the age of 1), it's both dairy and gluten free. They are little flavorless single serve packets that you can empty into a drink or something soft like applesauce. (again, don't mix it with anything warm!) Your kiddos can use it once a day, or if they are starting to have any digestive problems, you can take it up to seven times a day, each time with a drink or something soft. If you're planning to go on a vacation this summer, start them on it a couple of days before you leave, and then continue once or twice a day while you're gone. These packets are super easy to toss into a purse or carry on bag. As we moms know all too well, if your child isn't feeling well, there's no moment of peace! I've snuck it into my daughter's juice, and she had no clue.

Also available are the Culturelle Kids! Chewables, which are geared for kids 50 to 100 pounds. These super easy to chew tablets are also dairy and gluten free. Each individually packaged tablet can be taken once daily, or several times a day if there is any digestive troubles. Again, if you'll be going on vacation, you'll want to start these a few days ahead of time.

You can find any of the Culturelle products at drugstores like Rite Aid, CVS, and Walgreens, as well as some grocery stores like Albertsons. If you're interested in trying them out, you can get a couple of printable coupons to save on your purchase via the Culterelle website.

I received samples of the products mentioned above in order to try them out in my own home and share my thoughts on them. All opinions are my own. Before trying out any new supplement, especially if you are taking any medication of any type, be sure to discuss things with your doctor first.

My digestion went wonky with the onset of menopause--although the doctors won't attest to that connection. I am still on omeprazole and probiotics and am feeling good. I'd like to be off the meds, but you gotta do what you gotta do to feel good. I think the probiotics and a little metamucil keeps things working correctly.

Oh, it's fun getting old. Ugh!
