Book Review: Finding Emma By Steena Holmes

I recently received a copy of the new book Finding Emma by Steena Holmes to review.

Megan adores her four year old daughter, Emma. One day while in the kitchen, Megan turns her back for just a few moments, and Emma wanders out the door, never to be seen again. Devasted, Megan is obsessed with finding Emma. Her marriage suffers after her husband gives her the ultimatium of moving on, or he is leaving. Then in a photo Megan takes at the fair, she thinks the little girl is Emma. If she's wrong, this could devastate the other family. Is it really Emma, or does Megan just want to believe it is?

The end of the book also contains a reading group guide with some discussion questions about the book.

It's every mother's worst nightmare: having your child taken away from you, not knowing what has happened to them. Every time the phone rings you jump, fearing the worst while hoping for the best. Every where you look, you think you see your child. I couldn't find fault in any way that Megan reacted, because deep in my heart I know I would react the same way. I've always hated seeing other moms carrying their newborns in the carseat, place them in the cart, and wander off - even if its just a few feet, that's all it could take for someone to snatch your child. I think I can count on one hand how many times I ever carried my daughter in the store like that - I used my sling whenever possible. Ditto on the stroller - we've used the backpack carrier as much as possible instead. Now that she's running around me in circles, I worry even more.

I guess you probably figured out after reading that last paragraph that this book both saddened and scared me. If you can bring yourself to read it, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

By the way, 50% of the proceeds from the sale of this book will be donated to the Missing Children's Society of Canada. To find out more about their mission, click here. You can also visit the author's website here.

Finding Emma by Steena Holmes is a paperback fiction book. It is 270 pages long. The suggested cover price is $13.99, but Amazon has it available for $12.59 as of this posting. It is also available as an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.

I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.

  1. Thank you for reviewing and sharing such a subject. Parents think the danger is elsewhere, this can not happen to them etc...Awareness is the key to keep our children safe!
I was told I was overprotective as my children grew up and yet I failed to see potential danger more than once. I have thanked the Lord many times for smart kids and learned in the process more than I can say!
I am putting this book on my list!
    Thanks!
    God bless,
