DVD Review: VeggieTales: The Penniless Princess

My family and I recently received a copy of the new animated DVD VeggieTales: The Penniless Princess to review.

The newest story to the VeggieTales family, The Penniless Princess is a play on Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic book A Little Princess. Sweet Sara Crew has everything a little girl could want - from a closet full of pretty dresses to a loving family. In the blink of an eye, it's all gone, and Sarah's life has gone from riches to rags. Now Sarah must realize that her true worth is what's lies in her heart, not the possessions she has.

Another inspiring tale from this great children's series, it teaches kids about true worth, and reminding them who they are in God's eyes. Kids these days get so caught up in owning things - from the latest video game to the hot toy - and this dvd helps bring a gentle reminder that it's not about all the toys in the box, it's about what's inside. As a parent, I think is a great lesson for kids to learn - especially with the commercial overload most kids get - and I highly recommend having kids of all ages watching it. Of course my daughter thinks Larry the Cucumber is the bomb (LOL), so she loved the story! Want to see the trailer? Here you go:

The DVD also has some bons features, including a behind the scenes look, a featurette "My Teddy Bear's From Where?". a discussion guide for parents called "A True Princess", a tour of London, and sing-a-long songs including the new "Best Friend Forever" (which is based on texting, and I'll admit it drove me insane with LOL LOL LOL - of course, the kid LOVED it! LOL)

VeggieTales: The Penniless Princess will be available on DVD on August 11th at Christian retailers and August 14th at all other stores and online. Not rated, it is safe for all ages and geared towards the 3-8 crowd. The total running time is 50 minutes long. The suggested retail price is $18.33, but Amazon has it available on pre-order for $9.99 as of this posting.

I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
