Book Review: Beauty To Die For By Kim Alexis And Mindy Starns Clark

I recently received an advance reader's copy of the new book Beauty To Die For: A Spa Mystery by Kim Alexis and Mindy Starns Clark to review.

Juliette Taylor walked away from a fabulous career as a supermodel the day she had a chance encounter with a handsome stranger. Fast forward twenty five years, and she's never forgotten the man named Marcus who gave her the courage to change her life for the better. She's putting her energy into providing encouragement to other women who spend their time caring and nurturing for others at her Christian high end spa retreats, alongside her own successful skin care line. Everything is just wonderful - that is, until a former nemesis from her supermodel life named Raven walks into her life again. Raven is a tad bit - shall we say highstrung? - and threatens to kill Juliette. If that's not stressful enough, two hours later, Raven is found dead (in a chai soy wrap! lol), and Juliette ends up being a bit of a suspect. Will the real killer be exposed before it's too late? And will Juliette get a second chance with Marcus, now that he's helping to find out what's going on with imposters of her skincare line?

Kim Alexis' name should be familiar to most of us 80's folks - she was a supermodel back then. A perfect summer beach read, this was an enjoyable story line to get lost in. (Beware: mini-plot information alert) I also liked that it spotlighted that counterfeit products, like cosmetics (and other items such as purses) can be a front to raise money for terrorism and other nefarious activities. If you're purchasing an obvious knock off, at the very least you are helping fund awful things such as child labor, and slave labor, alongside what is really stealing. Don't buy knockoffs!

OK, now that I've got this out of my system, if you enjoy Christian chick lit/romance or light suspense, I think you'll enjoy this one. It's not shove-it-in-your-face full of religion, so don't worry if you're more into just the general plot - you should enjoy it too. It's also a pleasant change to have the main characters not be in their early 20's!

Beauty To Die For: A Spa Mystery by Kim Alexis and Mindy Starns Clark is a paperback Christian fiction/suspense book published by B&H Books. It is 352 pages long. The suggested cover price is $14.99, but Amazon has it available for $11.18 as of this posting. It is also available as a hardcover book, as well as an e-book for the Kindle and other e-readers.

I received a copy of this book in order to read it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own, and not that of the author(s) or publisher.
