Read by actress Cynthia Nixon, The Cursing Mommy's Book Of Days is a diary/blog of sorts, following our lead character - the cursing mommy, wife of Larry, and the mother of boys ages twelve and eight. As much as she tries to be Martha Stewart (do I ever know that feeling! LOL), her attempts to share tips for things to do around the home never quite go as she had planned - and yes, Mommy lets them rip. Wine makes it a little better, but the cycle starts again.
Yep, just like reading a very honest blog with a heavy dose of sarcasm - one that shows that life is not always a perfect greeting card. Now, normally I am not a fan of expletive after expletive, but holy smokes, can I ever identify with moments throughout this audiobook. Snort, snort, giggle, giggle. Murphy's Law, anyone? Opening the closet and having everything fall on her head? My DH is so guilty of doing that to me. There are moments that I swear, things I'm on a reality show and I'm just being tested - don't we all get that feeling?
Are you ready for this? Believe it or not, the story was written by a man who has a column in The New Yorker. Now, it does show through at times with some of the borderline outrageousness, but then again, having two boys in that age range is probably enough to drive any mom a little on the crazy side at times. OK, a lot crazy. The boys in this story might actually make good birth control for teens. ;) (Thank the heavens I have a girl who's not an arsonist and stuck on five million different medications! LOL) Everything is someone else's fault, of course.
Cynthia Nixon really makes the story come to life, making it sound like a real vlog or confessional at times. Um, fair warning - don't drink anything when you're listening to it on the computer - I spit my drink out all over the screen once or twice. ;)
The Cursing Mommy's Book Of Days by Ian Frazier and read by Cynthia Nixon is an unabridged audio book published by Macmillan Audio. The total running time of all six CD's is about seven hours long.
