Created by the same folks at Saban who did Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, VR Troopers stands for Virtual Reality Troopers. This show aired in the mid nineties and followed three teenagers who lived in the fictional town of Cross World City, and were teachers at a karate dojo. Each had their skill they were good at, and one day they stumbled onto a laboratory where they discover there's a virtual reality alongside our own reality that is full of monsters and other nasties. Now these teenagers must defend their world wearing their armor with special powers and keep these bad guys out. This show is geared more towards boys over the age of 5. It has the same silliness and cheesy effects, so if your kiddos like MMPR, they will probably enjoy this one too. My DH considers this one kind of the lower tier of the Saban shows - the karate is good, the rest? Pure cheese and sad editing.
This is the first time this show has ever been released on DVD, and it contains the first 26 episodes of season one: "The Battle Begins, Part One", "The Battle Begins, Part Two", "Error in the System", "Lost Memories", "Battle For the Books", "Oh Brother", "Grimlord's Challenge", "Computer Captive", "Kaitlin's Little Helper", "The Virtual Spy", "The Virtual V-6", "No One's Friend", "Dogmatic Change", "Searching For Tyler Steele", "Save the Trees", "A Dirty Trick", "Kaitlin's Front Page", "The Dognapping", "My Dog's Girlfriend", "Digging For Fire", "The Great Brain Robbery", "The Dojo Plot", "Grimlord's Greatest Hits", "The Disappearance", "Nightmares", and "Secret Admirer".
There are no special features included in this three disc set. Yep, once again. I really don't understand why they couldn't throw fans a bone or two, but apparently it's just not a priority.
VR Troopers: Season One, Volume One is available now wherever DVD's are sold. Rated TV-Y7 (mostly for a little rough and tough fake violence), the total running time is just about 9 hours long. The suggested retail price is $19.93, but Amazon has it available for $14.99 as of this posting. (Netflix uses: you can currently instant stream this show)
I received a copy of this DVD in order to view it and share my thoughts on it. All opinions are my own.
