Auden Steele became a widow after just two weeks of marriage a few years ago when her new husband's plane went down. She'd set back time if she could, but until then she's settled in to life as a widow taking care of her beloved ranch in Washington. She's a tough cookie who can ride, rope, and shoot with the best of them - and not a coyote can survive her wrath. One day her path crosses with Lance Wheeler, a game warden who is sent out to investigate a cougar attack. The problem for Lance? Auden's after that cougar too, and if she gets it first, he won't be bringing it in alive. After a terrible accident places them in each other's arms, can they come to an agreement about the cougar?
This is book #4 in The Rancher Series. Don't worry about reading them all in order, as you don't need to.
I always enjoy reading this author's books because not only are they well written, they're set here in Washington with a way of life I can more easily identify with than the usual romance novels set in the city with a heroine who had more shoes than critters. ;) Cougars are gorgeous animals - until they decimate your money making herd. And having lost one of our horses thanks to a pack of coyotes or feral dogs when I was a kid, I can honestly say I cheered a little reading that the main character took every chance she got to toast one of them when they were on her land. And if that cougar attacked my horse? Trust me, the warden would not be bringing it in alive, either.
If you enjoy western style romance books with a touch of mystery, add this one to your to-read list. It would also make an excellent gift for anyone who enjoys this kind of book.
