Baby, It's Cold Out There!

Brrr! Are you staying warm where you're at? We were sort of lucky - we haven't gotten the snow (yet) that has blanketed most of the country, but last night was a chilly 12 degrees. I feel like an idiot saying that, because I know 12 degrees isn't cold to a lot of parts of the country, but it is out here! I think this is the coldest it's been since we moved to Washington.

Of course, the water lines froze overnight. I knew it was going to happen; it's not like it's the first time. We have everything above ground insulated, and I left the water dripping, but it's been cold enough the last week that the ground just let it's magic happen (lol). (If you've been reading my blog long enough, you know it's not the first dance with this branch of Murphy's Law so I had plenty of stored water and supplies ready to go.) On the bright side, at least it's been fairly sunny the last few days so I'll take what I can get! :)

They say the white stuff is supposed to start appearing come Tuesday, so I guess maybe the Farmer's Almanac seems to be spot on with their prediction for a colder winter. (Booo.) I guess another bright side? That cold is killing off all the bugs that have hung around out here the last couple of winters because it didn't get cold quite enough. Here's hoping there will be a little less tarantula sized spiders and the like running around this summer. Maybe it will help with the slug problem too? (a girl can dream!)
